Coconut vs Soy wax, Which one is better?
Whenever you head to your favorite store to buy some new décor for your apartment or home, you’re ready to find cute items, check out new additions, and of course, walk through the candle aisle to smell all the beautiful candles on display. It’s almost irresistible not to open those lids and take a sniff. I’m guilty of that too! Even though I make my own candles, it’s always fun to explore new brands and unique creations.
But have you ever wondered what ingredients are actually used in those candles beyond the cute, polished labels? You usually start to notice once you begin caring more about your health and realize there are some tricky marketing terms in the candle industry.
That’s when I discovered the growing trend for soy candles and other natural options. To put it simply, soy wax is made from the oil of soybeans a renewable crop mainly grown in the U.S., Brazil, and Argentina. The oil is extracted, hydrogenated (to make it solid at room temperature), and turned into wax flakes. It’s definitely better than paraffin wax by far and is considered renewable with a cleaner burn.
However, when you learn about the benefits of coconut wax, it’s a whole different story (and an even better one). Coconut wax is derived from the oil of coconuts, a sustainable and renewable crop from tropical regions such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and parts of South America. It’s usually hydrogenated or blended with small amounts of soy or other natural waxes for stability.
Both waxes have great benefits, but the standout is coconut wax it’s 100% natural and renewable, made from a high-yield, low-impact crop. It also offers an exceptional scent throw and is incredibly eco-friendly. It may be a little more expensive, but it’s absolutely worth it for your health.
Now that you know more about both options, you can decide which one fits your lifestyle and values best.
