If there’s one scent family I will never stop loving (and honestly never stop restocking at port of joy), it’s citrus. There’s just something about lighting a citrus candle that instantly makes a space feel clean, fresh, and alive.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that citrus scents aren’t just my personal favorite, they’re consistently some of the top sellers nationwide. Whether it’s lemon, orange, grapefruit, or bergamot, people are drawn to bright, uplifting fragrances that feel energizing but still cozy. Citrus just works. 

What I personally notice (especially during markets and online orders over the last 2 years) is how fast citrus-based scents go compared to heavier ones. And there’s a reason for that. People aren’t just buying candles for smell anymore, they’re buying the feeling. Studies show that about 75% of candle buyers say scent is the #1 thing influencing their purchase, and citrus delivers exactly what most people want: something energizing, clean, and mood-boosting. 

It’s also super popular with younger shoppers, with around 68% of people ages 18–34 preferring fresh, fruity scents like citrus. So if you’ve ever wondered why citrus always sells out first… that’s definitely part of it.
